Unfortunately I am unable to start my blog with a sentence beginning with “on a beautiful sunny sunday morning…” as the weather was a bit dismal, but at least it was dry (small mercies). Wendy and I decided that a wee roadtrip was in order to explore the surrounding areas and the village itself paying particular attention to the new
collection of cottages that we have just taken on.
First stop was Bamburgh Castle, located just a couple of miles away from Lucker Village and just over a mile away from Budle Bay. The castle which sits proudly on a dolerite outcrop, overlooks the beautiful coast and really is spectacular to view. The most iconic images are taken from the golden stretch of beach and are quite simply breathtaking. The little village nearby to the Castle is awash with traditional tea rooms and plenty of fine dining and traditional pubs for you to indulge in. After a little history? Look no further than visiting the newly renovated Grace
Darling museum or why not visit St Aidan’s Church.
After a brief trip to Bamburgh, it was back on the road for a spot of lunch in the nearby village of Lucker, the Apple Inn. Significant reinvestment is quite clear to see from the moment upon entering the village, as you continue down the short road you arrive at a junction and just beyond you will see a quaint and picturesque church steeped in local history. Lucker Hall Steadings cottages are located just opposite the church and close by you will hear the downward stream of the Warren Burn.
The main cottages that sit next to the traditional pub, Apple Inn are located on Apple Row and as one can suspect they are aptly named after apples, so we have the Crispin, Bramley and Pippin. All of the cottages are beautifully designed and thoughtfully presented, from the traditional log stoves/wood burners to the soft furnishings and the sumptuous bedrooms – you are sure to have a wonderful and relaxed time. All of our cottages are dog friendly, and whilst we do stipulate 2 per cottage, the owners will consider reasonable requests to accommodate more of the smaller breeds. A small charge is applied at the time of booking.

At the Apple Inn you can expect to find traditional home cooked meals, light bites, local specialities dishes washed down with a wide selection of wines, beers and barista coffees. The Inn has recently been refurbished and has a nice and cosy feel to it, the fire just next to the entrance and conveniently located near to the bar adds to the charm and character of a country pub.
Just opposite the Apple Inn you will find the Apple Core, here you can feast on pizza’s, crepes or afternoon teas with
scones. There is even a takeaway and delivery service available!
To complete the village, Stablewood Group are also planning to launch it’s own leisure facilities, so expect to see
a gym, swimming pool, beauty and hair salon being added to the amenities on offer in July 2016.
Lucker Village is located just off the A1, and is ideally situated for exploring the delights and hidden gems of
Northumberland, but equally if a relaxing break is all you need and don’t want to travel far, then this is the
place to visit.
Oh and I forgot to mention…you can even hire your very own personal chef or book a Northumbrian Safari! This is just one of the additional services that the Owners provide their guests.
You are able to search and view all of our cottage collections by using the availability search function. More >….
