We know that going out for the day, without your canine companion, is not always what you want to do, so we’ve searched for some brilliant activities that are dog friendly and we know you will enjoy.
Holy Island and Lindisfarne Priory
This is a really special day out and needs a bit of planning to get the tides right, but once there you will spend a wonderful day meandering around the Island, taking in the gorgeous coastline. There is a lovely little centre with it’s own pub and cafe and if that’s not enough you can also peruse the fresh produce, available directly from the gardens of local residents
We must not forget the awesome priory and of course the history of the Island from the Vikings to the present day.
Please don’t forget to check the tide times though, or you and your four legged friend could be sleeping under the stars!
Belsay Hall Gardens
Belsay Hall is a Grade 1 listed building with stunning gardens set in the beautiful little village of Belsay in Northumberland. You should pack for the day with a picnic and take your time, to wander around all that Belsay has to offer. You will be astounded at the architecture of the building, lose yourself in the jungle like quarry gardens and also take some time to wander around the medieval ruins. A sure fire way to spend a relaxing afternoon.
Bamburgh Coastline
We’ve already talked about the beauty of Bamburgh Castle and its breathtaking location. A walk along Bamburgh Beach, is a must for any dog walker in the area, with vast swathes of space and breathtaking views, you will feel renewed and refreshed afterwards.
Take a look at England’s most northerly land-based lighthouse, known as Stag Rocks because of the white stag painted onto the rocks. Enjoy views over to the Farne Islands, Holy Island and Lindisfarne and take time to wander around the lovely village of Bamburgh, check out the local establishments, buy an ice cream and stop for some lunch.
Dog Friendly Pubs
Northumberland is meant for exploring, with hidden treasures in every part, some of which you will have seen during the wonderful “Tales of Northumberland” with Robson Green. Along the way you will undoubtedly want to try out the local culture and take some time out to have lunch or dinner in one of the original Northumbrian Pubs. To help you decide we have shared some of our favourite Dog Friendly ones.
The Bamburgh Castle Inn
An award winning pub situated in this beautiful coastal town with breathtaking views over the harbour, The Bamburgh Castle Inn has a country pub feel to it, serves home cooked food and has a dedicated dog friendly area.
Battlesteads
Nestling in the picturesque village of Wark, in Northumberland, serving locally sourced produce, complimented by their own home grown fruit and vegetables, prepared to an exceptional standard, it’s a must stop after a day in the countryside.
The Dyke Neuk
This beautiful country pub is situated just outside of Morpeth, you can get a mouth watering meal, whilst partaking in a real ale from the local Wylam Brewery.
The Shoulder of Mutton
Just about 3 miles from your cabin, it’s a locally run country pub and restaurant where you can “natter” with the locals, enjoy a scrumptious mean and if you’ve had one too many, get a taxi back to your cabin, to relax on your terrace afterwards.
I hope this gives you some ideas of places to go, and if you would like me to feature any others please let me know and we will write a post especially for you.
